Nanomaterials and Plant Potential

Abstract

Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) are of potentially great interest due to their excellent properties and diverse applications in industry and biomedicine. They are mainly produced by physical and chemical methods that are generally costly and toxic to environment. Recently, green synthesis of metal NPs has been actively pursued as an alternative, efficient, cost-effective, less toxic, and eco-friendly method for producing NPs with specified properties. This chapter presents a detailed account of plant-mediated and biomolecule-assisted synthesis of CuO NPs with main focus on reduction, capping and stabilization, and on their prospective applications.
