Abstract
If a hiring company is interested in your CV or application form, then it is likely that you will be getting an invite to an interview. The purpose of such an interview is to further assess your suitability for a particular job vacancy. It is critical that you are fully prepared beforehand, in order to improve your success. The goal of this chapter is to help you improve your performance during an interview setting, to help you secure the job that you want. As such, I will be focusing on three aspects, namely:
-
1.
How to do the necessary background research before attending the interview. I will be discussing the types of interviews that you are likely to encounter, what to expect and how to prepare for them (with particular focus on competency-type interviews). I will discuss on how you can anticipate the kind of questions that you are likely to be asked.
-
2.
The general dos and don’ts, on how to behave and conduct yourself (before and during the interview).
-
3.
What to do after the interview, e.g. how to negotiate your final salary (if a job offer is made) or how best to deal with a rejection.
