Abstract

In this chapter, the second part of the intervisual study looks at portrayals and punishments of terrorists (post-9/11) in the mainstream Western media, with emphasis on visual aspects of those portrayals. This analysis illuminates important narrative and visual themes (particularly regarding evil, barbarism and impurity) that emerge across the six main cases, and suggests ways in which those neo-Orientalist themes are rooted in Western cultural history.
