Abstract
When the banking crisis of 2007–2009 began exploding around the world, an amazing spectacle unfolded in Washington. A group of executives from gigantic corporations in the financial sector descended on the nation’s capital and presented the government with an ultimatum. The government was to either release billions in bailout money or face the consequences of sending the nation’s economy into a cataclysm and sacking millions of jobs.
