Abstract
In the mid-eighties a group of scholars convened for two conferences aimed at building a New Economics paradigm. The first was held in London in 1984 and the second, was held in Bonn the following year. The goals set out for the new paradigm were to develop and promote an economic system that is centered on social justice, the satisfaction of a wide range of human needs, sustainable use of resources, and environmental conservation. The meetings were called The Other Economic Summit (TOES) to symbolize a clean break from the business-as-usual Group of Seven meetings or World Economic Forums.
