Joint Models of Neural and Behavioral Data

Abstract

In this chapter we discuss several open areas for investigation, areas we consider to be future directions for joint models of neural and behavioral data. We discuss two such directions. First, we discuss new directions in the formulation of linking hypotheses relating neural measures to the parameters of cognitive models. Some of the joint models discussed in our Chap. 4, while elucidating, are very complex and are sometimes unable to scale easily with increases in the number of neural measures. As such, we discuss one method for reducing the dimensionality of the linking function, and provide some examples illustrating the power of this new approach. Second, we discuss some new work relating structural data to functional data in an effort to provide greater constraint on the brain-to-behavior linking hypothesis. We now turn to each of these future directions in turn.
