Ukrainian Regime Change, Civil War, and the USA-Russia Proxy War

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
The World Disorder

Abstract

The United States had been warned several times about the potential consequences of its meddling in Ukrainian affairs. Nevertheless, it persisted in its regime change policy. But just as everywhere else it had tried this policy, it failed in Ukraine. The regions of the south and southeast rebelled, declared independence, and Ukraine slipped into civil war. In fact, this was a proxy war between Kiev’s American-backed forces funded by IMF funds, and aided by American mercenaries, and the rebels supported by Russian forces. The situation was driving Ukraine to ruin. When the oligarch Petro Poroshenko was elected president in an election without the participation of Donbas, he had already lost 30% of this fortune. And the same fate befell all other oligarchs in Ukraine.
