Abstract
On 6 October 2015 I gave a public lecture at the invitation of the Centre of European Law at the University of Oslo. In my past speeches I had, with a few exceptions, conformed to the wishes of my Norwegian hosts and focussed on institutional and constitutional matters. However, this time I felt that I had to address the substance of our Single Market case law – and the way the legal community in both EEA pillars had been dealing with it. Since most academics, in particular in Norway and in Iceland, tend to immerse themselves in issues of sovereignty and the like without showing much interest in the material issues, I decided to give my speech the title “Dealing with the EEA Agreement: Where’s the beef?”
