Abstract
Reusable pathogen-contaminated medical instruments or devices can be the source of human infections. If they are reusable, measures must be taken before reuse on the next patient to avoid pathogen transmission. These measures are summarized under the term of reprocessing and include cleaning, disinfecting and/or sterilizing of medical devices. This chapter describes relevant reprocessing procedures used in the hospital setting.
