Abstract
Osteoporotic fragility fractures are a major public health problem around the world. The US National Osteoporosis Foundation estimates that currently more than 40 million American individuals, over the age of 50 years, are at risk of fracture, and this number will increase to 61 million by 2030. Due to the demographic change, the incidence of osteoporotic fractures will at least double until the year 2040.
