Dictionary of Statuses within EU Law

Abstract

This chapter analyses the category known as sex workers and investigate how they are conditioned by European Union (EU) law. First, a sociological analysis of sex workers is undertaken in order to understand the difficulty of regulating this phenomenon. Once the general sociological framework is established, we analyse the legal concept of sex workers and how EU law conditions them; as discussed, this largely depends on the different regulatory models in existence in individual member states. Following this, we consider how EU law can effect a change in the definition of sex workers.
