Abstract

This chapter outlines some of the options available to you if routine direct methods have failed to solve a structure. I am going to include data from powder and electron diffraction, since the ab-initio solution of crystal structures from these experiments is becoming a topic of increasing importance. The possibilities outlined in the following sections are not quoted in any order of preference, except perhaps for normalisation where the most scope exists for easy ways to alter the phasing path taken by the direct methods program you are using.
