Abstract
This chapter reviews the psychotherapeutic treatment of adolescents and young adults with an emphasis on the teenage population. Particular attention is given to the clinical problems presented by child—parent conflicts, school, parental divorce, and suicide in young people. Eating disorders, substance abuse, and depression are important in relation to the adolescent and young adult population but are extensively treated in other chapters of this book. Throughout the clinical and technical sections of the chapter, there is an underlying emphasis on relating the understanding of the case and its management to the developmental level of the teenager.
