Abstract
The welder can quickly handle numerous welding tasks under continuous quality control. For this reason manual welding will allways be needed as a complement to automatic welding. During welding the eyes are exposed to such an extreme environment that the biological defense is insufficient. The potential hazards for the eyes during welding activity decompose into risk for damage due to the welding process and risk for damage due to activity directly coupled to the welding. Both of these risks should be considered for protection. Contact lens wear during welding requires special safety precautions.
