Abstract

As discussed in Chapter 5, stress is a complex construct. Despite problems with a commonly accepted definition and model of stress, researchers and clinicians in a variety of fields have attempted to relate stress to the development, exacerbation, and maintenance of a number of health problems. The following article was excerpted from the Manchester Guardian to provide an example of the type of reasoning that characterizes some of the work in this controversial field.
