Abstract

There are three reasons why the authors are proud to contribute the following memoir to this Festschrift for Professor Bronstein: most relevantly, because the work comes from a doctoral dissertation by the second author (Rich-Siebzehner, 1979) that was comentored by Professor Bronstein and the first author; next, because the first author wishes to acknowledge his gratitude to Professor Bronstein for inviting him aboard the CUNY speech and hearing doctoral faculty 13 years ago; finally, because we wish to share with our colleagues yet another example of Professor Bronstein’s breadth and open-mindedness regarding what research on language behavior is worth supporting. The answer, of course, is any question that possesses novelty and that can be approached with scientific rigor.
