Abstract
Of all the pollutants, noise is the only one that does not leave a residue. To determine how much noise has been made at any location, it must be measured as it is being made, or at least recorded precisely for measurement and analysis at a later time. It is also difficult to study the adverse effects of noise because there are no directly observable tangible effects of noise on people when the levels of noise are below those which will cause temporary loss of hearing; and these levels are well above those that will cause interference with speech communication and distraction from creative activities.
