Abstract
To cope with today’s aging population, there exist many types of elderly housing and facilities for the elderly. Historically, there have been no special building types for elderly housing with the exception ofinkyo-beya (a small hut or a room for the aged) in Japan. This is mainly because the elderly have relied upon family or relatives.
