Diffusion of Large Clusters on a Surface: Experiments and Simulations

  • Chapter
Surface Diffusion

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSB,volume 360))

Abstract

We report deposition experiments of large antimony and gold clusters on graphite surfaces. The experiments show that these large (N ~ 1000 atoms) clusters are able to move rapidly on the surface (D ~ 10−8 cm 2 s −1 at room temperature). Finally, we try to understand this rapid diffusion by molecular dynamics studies of cluster diffusion.
