Abstract

We spent the previous chapter talking about the use of switches and variables within RPG Maker MV (RMMV). What we discussed there is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what you can do with them, but it’s time to start populating our roleplaying game (RPG) world. One thing every video game needs is a character for the player to control. Even a game as simple as Pong has the player controlling a paddle and trying to get a ball past an opponent’s own paddle. So far we have been controlling a party made up of RMMV’s default characters (now reduced to just Harold). It’s time to get to know Harold a little better. Make your way to the Database (by pressing F9 or finding it in the Tools item of the menu toolbar) and open the Actors tab. When you first install RMMV, your first foray into the Database will automatically lead you to the Actors tab, but recall that we have already poked our heads in there to change some of the game’s terms. Take a look at Figure 3-1.
