80 K Closed-Cycle Throttle Refrigerator

  • Chapter
Cryocoolers 8

Abstract

A closed-cycle throttle refrigerator has been developed which uses unique refrigerant mixtures and a single stage, oil-lubricated compressor to produce refrigeration at 80 K. This relatively simple system has good efficiency and low levels of vibration and noise. It should find many applications in commercial and research devices because of the versatility of distributing the circulating cold stream. Reliability should be very good because the compressor is the only active mechanical component.

This paper describes the first commercial refrigerator of this type that has been developed and its performance characteristics.
