Abstract
Over the past decade there has been burgeoning interest in roles that various neurochemicals and hormones play in control of breathing. This of course reflects the more general attention the question has received in most areas of biology. Although chemical messengers of many types have been identified, a relatively small amount of information exists about the in-volement and actions of these agents on specific physiological responses in the area of respiratory control.
