Cognitive Development and Clinical Interventions

  • Chapter
Cognitive Behavior Therapy with Children

Part of the book series: Applied Clinical Psychology ((NSSB))

Abstract

Achenbach (1978b) noted that the vast majority of research on child psychopathology is influenced more by adult treatment models than by a developmental perspective. He asserted that children must be considered in terms of developmental progressions along physical, social, and cognitive dimensions. Researchers and practitioners alike need to become more aware of “normal” developmental sequences and to understand the relationship of their interventions to the current and future states of the changing child.
