Abstract
From its very beginnings, clinical psychology has dealt with antisocial and criminal behavior. When Lightner Witmer founded the first psychology clinic at the University of Pennsylvania in 1896, “unruly and disruptive” children, who would now be labeled “delinquent,” were among the first clients. Shortly thereafter, in 1909, a psychologist, Grace Fernald, was a cofounder of the first court clinic (Reisman, 1966). This event is taken as the beginning of criminal justice or correctional psychology (Megargee, 1982b).
