Abstract
Satisfactory procedures are needed for the assay in plasma of nitroglycerin (glyceryl trinitrate, GTN) and denitrated metabolites, two isomeric dinitroglycerols (1,2- and 1,3-GDN) and mononitroglycerol (GMN; 2 isomers). Besides glycerol itself, metabolism also furnishes inorganic nitrite and, therefrom by reaction with GSH (forming GSSG), nitrate; the desirability of being able to measure these 4 analytes was pointed out at the 1985 Bioanalytical Forum ([1], wherein p. 111 shows metabolic pathways) but is not pursued here.
