Suggestions for Common Situations

Abstract

We have considered the supportive techniques that we can use to prevent or diminish disharmony, signal increasing safety and security, enable engagement, and, above all, convey unconditional valuing. Their use is based on moment-to-moment decision-making on our part. A critical variable is to facilitate a coming together through effectuating participation. We cannot take on new meanings if we are not in solidarity with the person. Yet, in the initial dimension of caregiving, his is quite difficult since we are confronted with the rejection of our presence and any kind of participation with us. The strategies and techniques that we described can help us move more closely to the person. However, a nearly infinite number of questions can present themselves. The more we experience various situations, the better we will be able to select techniques. Some of those that we have encountered are presented in this chapter.
