The Eden Decision Model

A Decision Model with Practical Applications for the Development of Behavior Decelerative Strategies

  • Chapter
Behavioral Issues in Autism

Part of the book series: Current Issues in Autism ((CIAM))

Abstract

Individuals with developmental disabilities have tremendous needs and often require intensive, lifelong intervention (Schopler & Mesibov, 1983) in such diverse areas as self-care and related life skills, functional communication skills, social skills, independent living skills (e.g., bill paying), and the use of adaptive work or mobility devices. Behavioral and educational methods of training have been found to be most effective in this effort (Schopler, Mesibov, & Baker, 1982). In addition, there is often the need to reduce certain dangerous or problematic behaviors.
