Part of the book series: Applied Clinical Psychology ((NSSB))

Abstract

It has been estimated that one person in 200 will require medical care for a head injury each year, and that each day about 1% of the work force is disabled because of head injury (Peterson, 1975, pp. 1093–1108). A majority of these injuries occurs in people under 40 years of age, and many brain-injured patients survive 30 to 40 years beyond the initial trauma (Jennett, 1975, pp. 3–21). These factors are responsible for the increasing numbers of those suffering late effects of traumatic brain injury.
