Abstract
Biological control is a natural phenomenon—the regulation of plant and animal numbers by natural enemies (biotic mortality agents), It is a major element of that force, natural control, that keeps all living creatures (except possibly man) in a state of balance with their environment. We will use the term biological control in our discussion to encompass both the introduction and manipulation of natural enemies by man to control pests* (applied biological control) and control that occurs without man’s intervention (natural biological control).
