Abstract
School programs for HIV prevention have been widely promoted in the last years. Preventive campaigns that have clearly shown some effectiveness1 are carried out following the recommendations made by the World Health Organization amongst others2,3,4, of using social learning theories, developing skills, and accounting for all the emotional and practical components that can induce behavioral changes in a young population. Nonetheless, due to the scarcity of economic and professional availability, large-scale programs are usually implemented, particularly in countries other than the United States with less strict criteria than those recommended and their methodology is necessarily weaker. Furthermore, such programs are rarely evaluated by scientifically sound methods5.
