Abstract

Through the support of the NATO Science Committee, Drs An and Cooney, from the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA), Garcia-Elias, from Barcelona (Spain) and the author were able to organize in May 1992 the first international workshop related to the Biomechanics of the Hand and Wrist. One hundred five scientists from 16 different countries attended this 2 and 1/2 day meeting (Table 1). The participants were accommodated in a lovely quiet location, the ‘Château du Lac’, 15 km from Brussels (Figure 1). Fifty-five original papers were presented. We have selected for this book the most significant contributions to the Biomechanics of the Hand and Wrist.
