Abstract
Freshly cut sodium (6.6 g, i.e. 0.28 g-atom) was added slowly in small pieces to 140 ml (an excess) of dry propyl alcohol contained in a 500-ml three-necked round-bottomed flask fitted with mercury-sealed stirrer and reflux condenser protected by a calcium chloride tube.
