Recent Applications and Potentials of Surfactant Aggregates in Non-Polar Solvents

  • Chapter
Reverse Micelles

Part of the book series: Forschung Soziologie

Abstract

Recent applications of surfactant aggregates in apolar solvents - reversed micelles, swollen reversed micelles and microemulsions are critically surveyed. The roles of these systems in reactivity control, formation of catalytically efficient colloid particles, tertiary oil recovery, lubrication, corrosion inhibition, artificial photosynthesis, enzyme mediated synthesis, cryoenzymology, macromolecular conformation, membrane fusion and drug encapsulation are summarized. Emphasis is placed on results obtained in our own laboratories. Unresolved problems and future prospects are highlighted.
