Abstract
Fertilization of an ovum by sperm normally occurs in the distal part of the fallopian tube.14 Cell division and cleavage continue during the transit through the tube. Transit time takes approximately 4 days, a period considered essential in the development of the fertilized ovum in preparation for implantation in the uterus.14
