Abstract
In Chapter 1 quality control was defined in terms of the operations needed to estimate the accuracy of an analytical result, that is, the degree to which the measured result approaches the true value of the thing measured. We could just as easily have defined it in terms of the error in the result, since the error is the inverse of the accuracy. The larger the error, the smaller is the accuracy.
