Alcohol-Abuse-Related Malformations

  • Chapter
Fetal Alcohol Abuse Syndrome

Abstract

As noted by the Institute of Medicine, “Virtually every malformation has been described in some patient with FAS” (IOM, 1996, p.77). Although the presence or absence of these malformations does not influence the diagnosis, many of these abnormalities are so commonly encountered in conjunction with FAS that their occurrence in this context must be more than coincidental.
