Abstract
It may readily be recognized that methods of exploration for and delineation of ore deposits have been developed over the years on the basis of fundamental physics. Of the rock electrification phenomena reviewed here, the ones which are used as exploration methods are the induced polarization effect, the piezoelectric effect and, in a very limited number of cases, the seismoelectric effect. Moreover, there is some basis for expecting that the piezoelectric effect in rocks can be used as a thermal drillability index, as well as a method for predicting earthquakes.
