Abstract

As with all physical and chemical processes flotation is a rate process governed by kinetic parameters, which are determined by several factors including the chemistry of the mineral-water interface, particle-bubble collision efficiency, and the strength of attachment of particles to the bubbles. The particle size is an important factor governing the attachment with bubbles. In this chapter the principles governing flotation kinetics will be first discussed. This will include the effect of particle size. The particle size effect is specially significant in the flotation of very coarse and very fine particles. Flotation techniques which have been investigated to promote the flotation of such fine particles will be reviewed in the second part of the chapter.
