Abstract
Whether the geologist is dealing with roadside outcrops, with subsurface data from a petroleum play, or with regional seismic lines, one of the first problems to be encountered is that of stratigraphic correlation. In order to reconstruct depositional environments and paleogeography or to trace a unit of economic interest the geologist must be able to define a stratigraphy and trace it from one location to another. The procedures for carrying this out are the subject of this chapter.
