Abstract
Disorders of the peripheral nervous system include a wide variety of conditions with diverse causes and presentations. The peripheral nervous system includes neural elements lying outside the brain and spinal cord: cranial nerves, motor and sensory nerve roots, peripheral nerves, and autonomic fibers. The concept of the peripheral nervous system is somewhat arbitrary but clinically useful. Certain disease processes seem to involve the peripheral nervous system preferentially; moreover, certain unique features, notably long and often vulnerable axons, determine its responses to various injuries and insults.1
