Abstract
Until recently, the treatment of macular detachment with macular hole was a nightmare for retinal surgeons. Classical treatment included coagulation of the macular hole and buckling of the macula. The surgical procedure was difficult and dangerous and postoperative vision was catastrophic. Most of the time the successfully operated patients complained of seeing much less after the operation than before.
