Abstract

The Rey—Osterrieth Complex Figure Test involves the copying and recall of abstract line drawings. Among neuropsychological assessment instruments, the Rey—Osterrieth Complex is unusual for two reasons. First, there are more different administration and scoring systems for the Rey—Osterrieth than for any other instrument. The copy and then the recall conditions allow the Rey—Osterrieth to be related to the evaluation of both visual—spatial construction and memory. The complex nature of the stimulus allows evaluation of the strategy used, thereby assessing aspects of planning and executive functions. Some versions require a copy condition and then an immediate, unwarned recall condition, but one version utilizes a 3-minute delay before the “immediate” recall condition. The delayed recall condition, which is also unwarned, is given in some versions after 30 minutes and in some versions after 45 minutes.
