Abstract
In this chapter we briefly present an introduction to magnetism in general. Although in this book our interest is confined to magnetism of metals, the discussion of this chapter is focused on magnetism of insulators. An introduction to magnetism of metals will be given separately in the next chapter. For a more extensive introduction to magnetism, see, for instance, Refs. [1.1,1.6, 2.1–2.13].
