Abstract

Once considered a “radioresistant” organ, because large doses of radiation are needed to ablate it, the thyroid is now known to be one of the most sensitive to the long-term, neoplastic effects of radiation. Once thought to be a relatively rare and largely resolved problem, radiation-induced thyroid cancer is now known to be a common and persistent problem.
