Abstract
The best approximation of a function h by means of a (parameterized) family of functions H has a great many applications in numerical analysis, natural sciences, engineering, and economics. Below we shall consider this problem in a fairly general setting (Pintér, 1992b), and then show the relevance of Lipschitzian global optimization for its solution.
