Abstract
The literature on concurrency control in distributed databases and their performance is vast and this section is intended to expose the reader to some of the key issues in this area. For more detailed discussions the reader is referred to [BeGo81], [Date83], [CePe84], [BeHG87], [CeGM88], [GrRe92]. We also point out how some of the previously discussed concurrency control methods can be extended to a distributed environment. In what follows we first discuss concurrency control methods for distributed databases, followed by their modeling and performance evaluation. A brief discussion of data-sharing and multidatabase systems follows.
