Abstract
Hospitals, specifically nursing departments, face major decisions as they plan to meet their computing needs. It is often advisable to employ a consultant to obtain expert advice with regard to a well-defined situation or problem that is beyond the capabilities or experience of the hospital staff. At times, the hospital chief executive officer (CEO) and/or board of trustees could benefit from independent validation of a future course of action, specifically with respect to nursing informatics. Not only are sizable financial resources involved but often also the future efficiency and effectiveness of the entire hospital and nursing staff.
