Abstract

MOBITFX® is a worldwide standardfor wireless wide area packet-switched data communications. Because all MOBITEX systems provide documented open interfaces, any company can enter the mobile data business by supplying mobile and portable radio modems and application software to users of a MOBITEX system. This paper provides an overview of the MOBITEX system including the MOBITEX network architecture, network protocol, public and private data network connectivity, RF system design, and the radio link protocol, ROSI. Several MOBITEX system features, such as Host Group Addressing (HGA) and store-and-forward, are also described. Finally, simulation results for throughput and response times of the ROSI protocol are presented.
