Abstract

In order to understand the effects of anesthesia on fetal blood gases, it is important to review the basics from the gross anatomy of uteroplacental circulation to the biochemistry of gas exchange. After reviewing the basics, it will become fairly obvious how anesthesia impinges upon them to potentially alter fetal blood gases.
