Abstract
S-(1, 2-dichlorovinyl)-L-cysteine (DCVC) is a potent specific nephrotoxin which produces proximal tubular damage in vivo and in vitro (Elfarra, 1986 a,b; Lash, 1986b). In vivo DCVC causes its primary lesion in the straight segment (Sā3) of the proximal tubule. Previous in vitro systems (proximal tubule suspensions and cells) have not allowed for the expression of a specific lesion. Cultured precision-cut renal cortical slices retain their architecture thus allowing the expression of specific lesions in addition to changes in biochemical indices.
