Regioselective Toxicity by Dichlorovinylcysteine in Rabbit Renal Cortical Slices

  • Chapter
Book cover Nephrotoxicity

Abstract

S-(1, 2-dichlorovinyl)-L-cysteine (DCVC) is a potent specific nephrotoxin which produces proximal tubular damage in vivo and in vitro (Elfarra, 1986 a,b; Lash, 1986b). In vivo DCVC causes its primary lesion in the straight segment (Sā€“3) of the proximal tubule. Previous in vitro systems (proximal tubule suspensions and cells) have not allowed for the expression of a specific lesion. Cultured precision-cut renal cortical slices retain their architecture thus allowing the expression of specific lesions in addition to changes in biochemical indices.
